A deep dive into the Communication Suite's persistent identifiers. Rotating VPN relays alone doesn't make you unlinkable: it changes the visible endpoint and leaves the other identifiers, and the timing and volume of your traffic, available for correlation. The eight identifiers in the Rationale's table (the Mullvad account number, the Cape number and account, the IMSI, the IMEI, the router's Wi-Fi name and WAN MAC, the Signal or Molly registration, the SimpleX identity and the payment instrument), who sees each one, how often it rotates, and why. The Cape number carries the most identity; the IMEI can't be rotated except by replacing the handset. Then the opposite error: a fresh persona every trip, and why one kit identity managed well holds up better.

What you’ll learn

  • Know every persistent identifier in the kit
  • Know each rotation rule and why
  • Avoid over-rotation

The honest limits

The IMEI can't be rotated except by replacing the handset. Daily IMSI rotation doesn't break a same-session correlation. The kit is data-minimised, not anonymous.
