Failure Drills: Break the VPN 4 Ways, Watch It Fail Closed

A drill in the Communication Suite's Hardware Lab, in Practice mode: break the VPN four ways and watch the kit fail closed. The laptop's tunnel, the phone's tunnel, the uplink, and the router's relay blocked upstream. For each one, read both devices' traffic states (blocked by the uplink, the router's outer tunnel or the device's own endpoint policy, or protected), then repair and reconnect. Endpoint faults need a reconnect; unblocking the router's relay brings its tunnel back on its own, as the suite's hotel test lab found on IPv4. And blocked traffic doesn't prove a working tunnel. Simulated results; the real tests are the café fail-closed check and the router isolation test, both in The Build.

What you’ll learn

  • Inject each of the four faults
  • Read the traffic state for each device
  • Repair and reconnect correctly

The honest limits

Simulated results: the lab makes no real network request, and the real tests are in The Build. The hotel test lab's router result covers IPv4 only, and the lab's screens are illustrative.
